I bought my Savage without ever hearing it start or test riding it. I just saw it, fell in love with it, found this website and because of the input in here, am having the best summer of my life! I have had two big Harleys before, (panheads) and have ridden several sporsters. After 2,500 miles this is my impression of the bike. Its really a very sexy lookin bike! I get many comments on its simplicity and looks, and I am not embarrased to pull up next to any Harley at a red light. To me, it seems like every Harley sounds and looks the same. My bike stands out! Its draw back to me is I feel very unstable at speeds over 60 mph. I feel like Im riding a rocket actually at 55. I dont imagine Ill be taking many interstate trips for sure. I get alot of vibration in the grips at speeds above 50 mph but I have learned to wear gloves, so that helps. But give me a long mountain road which we have many here in Oregon, and pound for pound this bike is more fun and responsive in the corners than any Harley Ive ever ridden! Plenty of power thru all gears and ive yet to find anything to slow it down. In no way is this a girls bike! Its small size and weight makes it perfect for the smaller rider, so maybe this is why so many ladies pick this one out. Not one of my friends on their BMW's or Triumphs have ever even hinted that this is a womans bike. I might not be able to accerate as fast as them of the line, but hit 3rd gear and I can keep up with anything to I hit speeds above 70. Another plus to me is how simple this bike is to work on altho with only 2,000 miles I would hope I wouldnt have to. Ive read many posts about oil leaks. I have none. Maybe they have corrected the problem. I put metal polish on my header pipe every 2 or 3 times I ride it and so far no blueing at all. I do have that dreaded ear deafing buzz from my speedo. When I put my hand on it while riding it quiets right down. Im gonna fix that myself. Dealer said I cant get in for another month anyway. I have ordered a Jardine muffler and gonna have it rejetted next week. Maybe it'll open it up a bit and Ill feel more relaxed at higher speeds. Anyway this is my story. I had saved enough to by myself a new Harley Sporster, and instead I have something that I will enjoy just as much, and besides with the money I saved, Ive decided Im gonna buy my brother one too! Have a nice summer, and ride safe!
